Charles Hoskinson, the Cardano founder, hints at the possible launch date of the 90’s FPS game Doom on Cardano’s Hydra scaling solution.

Notably, he revealed this in a post on X today, suggesting proponents could get a chance to play the game at the upcoming Rare Evo conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the uninitiated, the Rare Evo blockchain conference is slated to occur between August 15 to 17, with Hoskinson featured as one of the speakers.

In his recent disclosure, the Cardano founder shared a link to the game, which appeared to be an extension of the official Hydra.family platform. As of press time, the game is not playable yet, with the inscription “Coming Soon” boldly written on the official link.

In a separate disclosure, Trym Måke Bruset, blockchain consultant and product manager at Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), hinted at the imminent launch with a suggestive GIF on X yesterday. Bruset also shared a link to the official Hydra Doom platform.

Doom Running on Cardano Hydra

Notably, the recent disclosures come nearly three months after Hoskinson officially confirmed plans to launch Doom on Hydra. The Cardano founder revealed these plans in an X post featuring a 37-second Doom gameplay. “Coming to Hydra,” he remarked, with no additional information.

Doom is an FPS or first-person shooter game released by the U.S.-based video game developing firm id Software in 1993. It follows a space marine called Doomguy in a battle with dark forces.

Renowned for its 3D graphics and fast-paced action, Doom is one of the biggest influences behind the popularity of the FPS genre and multiplayer deathmatches. Its success spawned numerous sequels, spin-offs, and a dedicated modding community.

Following his earlier disclosure on bringing Doom to Hydra, Hoskinson stressed that for the game to run on Cardano, it would exist as smart contracts on Hydra heads. Last month, IOHK also confirmed that proponents could join them at Rare Evo to play Hydra Doom offline or online.

Hoskinson has always been vocal about his affinity for games, with some of the earliest role-playing games (RPGs) being his personal favorites. In May 2020, the Cardano founder disclosed his intention to acquire Legends of Valour, an RPG game launched in 1992, and revitalize it.
