$S Season 2 Airdrop and Major Ecosystem Updates

News RoomBy News RoomJune 14, 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Since Fantom rebranded to Sonic Labs, the protocol has been reshaping its ecosystem to onboard more users and establish itself as a leading player in the blockchain industry. Following its migration from FTM to the S token, the protocol has revealed numerous updates. Some key updates were unveiled over the past week, with the centerpiece being the $S Season 2 Airdrop, launching on June 18, 2025.

Other notable innovations involve technical milestones, new app integrations, and engagement initiatives. This article explores the protocol’s latest updates in the blockchain industry, particularly with the season 2 airdrop on the horizon.

    What is Sonic Blockchain?

Sonic is a high-performance Layer-1 blockchain tailored for Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and gaming ecosystems. As highlighted in our deep dive about the blockchain platform, it delivers speeds of up to 10,000 transactions per second (TPS), sub-second finality, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatibility, and a custom VM.

Developed by a team of PhD pioneers, Sonic prioritizes scalability, security, and composability, making it a go-to platform for DeFi and Web3 developers. Its native token, $S, fuels staking, governance, and ecosystem incentives, including the ongoing airdrop campaigns.

$S Season 2 Airdrop: Key Details

Sonic Labs recently announced that the $S Season 2 Airdrop will begin on June 18, 2025, immediately following Season 1’s conclusion. Unlike Season 1, Season 2 emphasizes rewarding active on-chain participation, phasing out passive point systems. The airdrop introduces a loyalty-based points boost and counts revenue toward “Gems,” encouraging sustained user engagement.

The total airdrop pool is 190.5 million $S tokens. Portions will be claimable after each season’s review, ensuring a fair distribution. A June 7 announcement confirmed the timeline, noting that a detailed Season 2 outline will be released next week.

A key feature of Season 2 is Autopools, introduced on June 11, 2025. These ERC-4626-compliant vaults automatically rebalance funds across Sonic apps to maximize yield. Users can opt for autoS (liquid staking tokens) or sonicUSD (stablecoins) to earn yield and airdrop points, making Autopools a strategic tool for participants aiming to optimize $S rewards.

    Major Ecosystem Developments

Below is a quick rundown of the platform’s key updates in the past week:

    Technical Milestones

Sonic Labs celebrated processing 100 million transactions with near-instant finality and zero downtime, highlighting the blockchain’s reliability. A June 8 update detailed Sonic’s technical specs, including 400,000 TPS, sub-second finality, and a custom VM, database, and consensus mechanism, positioning Sonic as a leader in Layer-1 performance.

    New App Integrations

The platform’s DeFi ecosystem grew with the integration of 246 Club, announced on June 10, 2025. The platform offers Re-Lending, enabling users to earn steady USDC yield with additional rewards, and Cross-Protocol Loans, allowing borrowing against wstkscUSD. This integration enhances Sonic’s DeFi composability, attracting developers and users.

Additionally, on June 6, 2025, Flytrade became the first Sonic app to feature its initial token listing on Binance and Kraken, marking a milestone in ecosystem expansion.

    Account Abstraction Upgrade

One of the most important updates during the past week is its plans for an Account Abstraction upgrade based on EIP-7702. This update will introduce gas subsidies, dynamic fees, social recovery, and session keys, improving user accessibility and experience. The upgrade underscores Sonic’s commitment to innovation.

    FeeM Tutorial Contest

To engage the community, Sonic Labs launched a contest encouraging users to create short tutorials (under 60 seconds) on registering apps for FeeM, a program allowing apps to retain 90% of their fees. The top three videos will each receive 1,000 $S, with submissions due by June 14, 2025. A sample video was provided for inspiration, making this an accessible opportunity for participants.

    Sonic Sync Weekly Stream

Another community incentive, “Sonic Sync,” was introduced on June 9. The weekly stream showcases ecosystem builders with the first episode, aired on June 10, featuring discussions with key contributors, fostering transparency and community engagement.

    One To Watch

The $S Season 2 Airdrop offers a prime opportunity to earn rewards through active participation, particularly via Autopools. Additionally, the FeeM contest, with a deadline of June 14, 2025, provides an additional avenue for involvement.

Technical milestones like 100 million transactions and the Account Abstraction upgrade highlight Sonic’s scalability and user focus. At the same time, new app integrations and ecosystem dApp recognitions for exchange listings signal robust ecosystem growth.

Overall, these developments position Sonic as a competitive Layer-1 blockchain, appealing to developers, investors, and users seeking high-performance DeFi and Web3 solutions.
