Tom Goldstein, a former U.S. Supreme Court lawyer, has been arrested for the second time in a month over allegations of undisclosed cryptocurrency transactions worth millions of dollars. Prosecutors argue that these transactions suggest an effort to hide assets and evade justice.

The Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed Goldstein’s arrest and noted that he is currently undergoing a bail review hearing. His legal team has not yet issued a response to the latest allegations.

Supreme Court Lawyer Tome Goldstein Arrested Again

Goldstein, who retired in 2023 after arguing over 40 cases before the Supreme Court, was initially indicted last month on 22 counts of tax evasion and financial misconduct. Prosecutors claim that his side career as a high-stakes poker player led to millions in undisclosed earnings. He generated these earnings through his law firm, Goldstein & Russell, to cover debts. He pleaded not guilty on January 27 and was released pending trial.

“Defendant’s conduct demonstrates that he is a serious risk of flight, that he cannot abide by the conditions of release, and that he has lied to this Court and Pretrial Services,” the Maryland U.S. Attorney’s Office stated in the filing, “A rebuttable presumption that Defendant is a danger to the community now applies, and Defendant’s conditions of release should be revoked.”

However, new evidence suggests that in the past five days, Goldstein received over $8 million in cryptocurrency and transferred more than $6 million to undisclosed wallets. Federal prosecutors argue that such activity violates his pretrial release conditions, which require full disclosure of financial transactions.
