RippleX has released a major update for the XRP Ledger, and developers are calling it the “strongest single lineup of amendments” they have ever put into one release. Version 2.5.0 of the network’s core software, Rippled, is now live, and it is not just another round of patches.
This upgrade brings in new features that people have been waiting for, fixes some edge cases that have been an issue for a while and shows the hard work that loads of different teams have put in. Even Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse got involved, publicly applauding the work and calling it “huge progress.”
One great thing we have added is TokenEscrow, which lets you use escrow with IOUs and multi-purpose tokens. Batch is another key feature that lets you group and execute transactions in a single step, which could make complex dApp operations much simpler.
Another interesting one is PermissionedDEX, which opens the door to decentralized exchanges that are compliant and have access control. PermissionDelegation is also worth a mention as it lets users securely delegate account permissions, making multi-user wallets and account automation much more viable.

As well as the features, the upgrade also tightens the protocol. The full package includes a bunch of backend improvements too, like enhanced relay logic, stricter RPC behaviour, faster transaction throughput and smarter validator message handling.
RippleX’s engineering team also stopped supporting old compilers and made it easier to use modern build systems, which should make development go more smoothly in the future.
For developers, exchanges and ecosystem contributors, this is a big step forward in how flexible, programmable and compliant the XRP Ledger can become – without affecting its performance or decentralization.
Now that these changes are up for voting, operators are being urged to upgrade as soon as possible. To get the changes going across the network, it takes at least 80% of the validators giving the green light over a couple of weeks.
