Storacha Builds Hot Storage Layer on Top of Filecoin

News RoomBy News RoomJune 9, 2025No Comments4 Mins Read
    • Storacha introduces decentralized hot storage for fast data access, supported by Proof of Data Possession technology.
    • AI agents can now store and retrieve data without central servers, thanks to Storacha’s MCP Storage Server.

In an increasingly fast-paced world, storing data but having to wait for it to be unsealed first is like storing a racing motorbike in a warehouse. Storacha understands that very well. Therefore, they are now building a decentralized hot storage layer on top of the Filecoin network.

Not just a concept, this network can already be explored by contributors via CLI, technical documentation, and a Discord community that is very active. Although node onboarding has not been widely opened, many users have started tinkering with it.

.@storachanetwork is building a decentralized hot storage layer on Filecoin, focused on fast and accessible data. Node onboarding is coming soon, but contributors can already explore the network through CLI tools, documentation, and a live Discord community. https://t.co/9l1XEYUDYY

Giving AI Agents Their Own Flash Drive on Filecoin

Not only that, Storacha also introduced something they call the MCP Storage Server. They want to provide decentralized memory for AI agents like Claude or ElizaOS. So, these agents can directly upload and retrieve data from IPFS and Filecoin without having to attach to a central server. It feels like having a personal flash drive on an open network, but one that can be used by smart robots.

Furthermore, this system is supported by Proof of Data Possession (PDP) technology which has just been active on the Filecoin mainnet since last May. This technology allows nodes to prove that data is available immediately—without the complicated unsealing process.

So, if you usually have to wait a long time like queuing to get a driver’s license, now you can just click and run it. Suitable for systems that require speed such as AI or Web3 games.

When Decentralized Storage Starts Doing Real-World Heavy Lifting

On the other hand, Storacha is not the only one adopting this fast and open storage capability. On May 29, Filecoin officially announced a collaboration with Bagel Labs. They are working together to ensure the privacy of AI data remains safe by combining encryption technology, zero-knowledge proof, and differential privacy.

If you think this sounds complicated, imagine you are chatting with AI but while wearing a mask and a distorted voice—everything remains secret, but still functional.

Meanwhile, the Internet Archive also apparently stores US government web data on Filecoin. According to CNF, this step was taken to keep the archive safe from censorship, server failures, or the potential for loss during the presidential transition. It’s like storing important documents in safes that are spread across many homes. Hard to hack, hard to eliminate.

Still on the subject of developments, at the end of May Filecoin and the Avalanche Foundation launched a cross-chain data bridge between Filecoin and the Avalanche C‑Chain.

By utilizing the Filecoin Virtual Machine (FEVM), Avalanche applications can now store data in Filecoin with on‑chain verification and minimal response times. If you are a Web3 developer, this is like having a large warehouse located right next to the factory, no more driving back and forth.

And if you like to tinker on the technical side, other news comes from the Network Version 25 update, aka “Teep.” Released on May 5, this speeds up finality by 100x via F3, reorganizes the sector fee structure, and brings support for transient storage via EIP‑1153. That means lighter costs, a more agile developer experience, and a more flexible system.

Meanwhile, as of the writing time, FIL is changing hands at about $2.53, up 1.50% over the last 24 hours, driving its market cap to surpass the $1.70 billion mark.
