Vitalik Buterin Transferred Over $1.8 Million Worth of ETH and USDC to This Privacy Protocol! Here Are the Details

News RoomBy News RoomJune 4, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has taken a significant step towards supporting blockchain privacy by transferring approximately 693.91 ETH ($1.83 million) and 340,900 USDC to the Railgun protocol, a leading on-chain privacy solution.

Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin Transfers Over $1.8 Million in ETH and USDC to Privacy Protocol Railgun

According to blockchain data, the transfers were made through an intermediary wallet address starting with 0x18…F10E.

Buterin, known by his ENS domain name vitalik.eth, has long advocated for user privacy in the Ethereum ecosystem. His latest transaction with Railgun reaffirms this stance. In his past statements, Buterin has argued against the idea that privacy tools are inherently questionable, saying privacy is normal.

Railgun’s privacy pool protocol enhances transaction privacy while also incorporating security measures to prevent abuse. The system allows users to hide transaction data while also employing mechanisms to prevent malicious actors from abusing the network.

    What is Railgun?

Railgun is a zero-knowledge privacy protocol that enables private DeFi and token transactions on Ethereum without leaving the chain. It supports multiple assets and targets both retail and enterprise users who want on-chain privacy.

The protocol has begun to gain attention amid growing demand for privacy-protecting tools in Web3, especially as regulators around the world begin to more closely scrutinize blockchain transactions.

Buterin’s public use of a protocol like Railgun could send a message to the Ethereum community and developers: privacy can and should be integrated into mainstream blockchain usage. The move comes at a time when privacy projects are facing increasing regulatory pressure, particularly in the US and EU.

Buterin’s support could encourage wider adoption of privacy infrastructure and more nuanced discussions about privacy rights in the decentralized world.
